IN ENGLISH, PLEASE.jpg

_EIRE

This ain't no page from an English Work Book, not by a long shot (unless those come with moody black-and-white filters).
However, being a teacher of English has made me see just how much language and culture are tied together.

These pics show Ireland in all its raw beauty.

“Éire” was Ireland’s name until the Constitution of Ireland of 1937
provided “Ireland” as her official one and until the English-law name
of the state was changed to "Republic of Ireland” in 1949.
Eire is a derivation from the word Éiru,
an old Irish word for the matron goddess of the Island.
It is used as her being the personification as the goddess of sovereignty.

I wish Ireland had kept the name Éire,
it sounds as peaceful as it looks,

right?
